    As far as I can learn none of these old people can tell stories in Irish.
    Some of them can tell very good stories in English.
    In former times there were ten more houses in Carrickallen than at the present day.
    The old walls of some of these houses are yet to be seen.
    Most of the families that lived in these houses have died out and the others emigrated.
    The land in Carrickallen is very good for labour and grazing.
    Some of it is very hilly but the farms are well supplied with bog and meadow.
    It has neither woods nor rivers but adjoining it on the south side there is a lough known as Lough A Cannon.
    Carrickallen is separated from Greaghucrotta and Drumcalpin by a stream.
    This stream flows through part of Laragh and on to Bally-
