    I have often heard my father say that he saw poor people come into the house and eating turnips. The district was very thickly populated those days.
    In the famine years a boiler was errected at Bunnoe to make porridge. This porridge was given to the people who were hungry. The people had to wait for hours before they would get it, because there would be such a throng of hungrey people there.
    In those days the people had to pay very heavy rents to the landlords.
