  1. Ballinacargy was once a village. It was there the O'Reillys chieftains of Cavan lived. In olden times there was kept in this townland a Baughall or book which was used when settling all disputes in the Parish.
    All who had to take an oath had to swear on that book. The people were in great terror as it was firmly believed something terrible would happen to anyone who swore a false oath on it such as that a head would turn backwards. This way of administering justice was carried on for years, until a young fellow took courage and said he would swear a false oath on it so he swore that the village of Ballinacargy was bigger
