- In the olden times shops were common. People had to go to the nearest town to buy things as there were no shops at the cross roads or in the country. On Sunday after mass buying and selling was carried on and the hiring of farmer labourers. Tea, sugar, matches, candles, tobacco, and cigarettes were articles bought on Sundays.
Money was not always given for goods, men used to give their labour instead.
