“A childless couple in the neighbourhood of the Mission school owned a very small and miserable holding.”
The following story was told to me by the late Tom Casey ex-N.T. who died last year at the age of 99.
As a young man he was Father Meehan's organist and clerk at the services which Father Meehan held in the "Little Ark" on the foreshore at Kilbaha every Sunday between the years 1850 and 1856.A childless couple in the neighbourhood of the Mission school owned a very small and miserable holding. Adjoining this holding there were about three acres of poor swampy land which was running wild and was not held by anybody. The old couple decided to ask the landlord's agent for this waste piece of land the the "man of the house" asked the Parson - Fossett - to use his influence with the agent on his behalf.
He arrived at the Parson's house and told his business. The first question he was asked was(continues on next page)- Collector
