- Long ago the people round the district used to have a lot of cures for diseases.
The cure for toothache is to let a frog run up the side of your face where you have the toothache and throw it in a stream between two townlands.
The cure for thrush is to let a goose or gander breathe into the child's mouth.
Food left behind by a ferret is the cure for the whooping cough.
The cure for mumps is to put the winkers on the person and drive him round the pigsty. - Homemade toys are very common in our districts. The men and boys make guns out of elder branches for skitting water. They make bows and arrows with crooked sticks and strings. Boys get a slice of a turnip and bore two holes in it and put another slice of a turnip in the holes to pretend they have made a man's head. Boys make tops of spools for spinning. Girl's string flowers and make rag dolls out of rags.
