- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)of the sheep and cow. the wich was put through a mould and over a nail at the top. The mould was stuck in a sod of turf and the melted tallow was poured in. When it was cool the mould was heated to the fire and the candle was pulled out by the nail.
- In olden times when no lamps or candles were to be had the people used splinters of fir to give light. In later years they used candles which they themselves made. When a cow or sheep was killed tey kep the tallow to make the candles. First they melted it. Then they got a shap called a mould. There was a point in one end of the mould which was fastened in a turnip or a sod of turf after which the wick was pulled through over a nail at the other end.
