Frost: At night the moon and stars seem very bright. Snipe and wild duck at evening quit the bogs and lowlands and come up the hilly country where there are running streams. The leave the high ground before the approach of a thaw and return to the bogs and marshes.
Snow: Clouded sky, frost or freesing, followed by a rise in temperature and a veering round spotlight wind to the E. or S. E. Wild geese fly for the mountain (Slievenanon).
