- On St Stephens day a number of men and boys gather together, and dress up in strange clothes. Some turn their clothes inside out and paint their faces with puddle, some put on women's clothes and wear eye-fiddles so that they would not be known.
They go round from house to house - some walking and some cycling. Some of the crowd play music and others sing songs. The usual song they sing is the "song of the wren."
The wren the wren the king of all birds.
On St Stephen's Day she was caught in the furze.
Although he was little his family was great.
Get up good lady and give us a treat.
