- We have ten cows. Straw is used as bedding which is called fodder. Each cow is tied in a stall for itself in the one cow shed. There did a cow lose milk one time and she got into it again.
This is the way a hen is put hatching. You get some straw and a box and some eggs and put the hen into it. Leave the hen into it hatching for three weeks. It is said that people bury eggs in other people's gardens for no good purpose. This is the way hens are called "tiuc tiuc". Turkeys, geese and ducks are left hatching for one month. The way you call geese is "Beadie beadie."
Any one that has a mare should kill a cock at Michaelmas on account of having a mare. They say that you should kill a cock on Saint Martin's Day and spill the blood in honour of Saint Martin and dip a piece of flannel in the blood and put it up. It is good for a pain in the side.- Collector
