- Boxtybread was made in this parish up to about 40 years ago.
Potatoes were grated, and squeezed through a muslin bag. The grated potatoes were then mixed with flour - kneaded and baked on a griddle. The starch given off when squeezed was used for "stiffening" shirts.
The griddle is no longer in use here and bonty is unknown except a few old people.
Horehound tea
The leaves and tops of horehound herb were infused in hot water. The tea was used as a cure for coughs and for rheumatism. Horehound tea is no longer made though the herb is well known.
"Comfrey" paste.
Used for sprains. The "comfrey" plant has a large leaf like that of rhubarb and a long tapering root like that of a parsnip. The root is scraped and the juicy exterior is made into past which is put on a cloth and placed on the affected part. This "cure"(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
