  1. Gather moss off the rocks or trees. Boil a pot of water and when it is boiled put in the grey moss and let it come to a boil. Put in the stockings and leave them there for a while and when you take them out they are dyed brown.
    This industry is not carried on by us now but it was done by my grand-mother about 60 years ago now.
