- Long ago there were different sorts of bread made from what is made nowadays. The kind of bread that was usually made was oatmeal cake, potato cake, and boxty bread.
The ingredients for oatmeal cakes were - oatmeal, salt and water. Oatmeal and water were mixed together and then shaped into a cake.
