- My Grandfather told me that spinning was a great industry in this district long ago, and it is still carried on to-day. Mrs Colgan who lived in Creevolan was a great spinner. Young and old used to gather to this woman's house at night to help her to card the wool. From this thread - she made socks, stockings, flannens for under ware and blankets.
Her husband John Colgan was a great flax weaver. First he scutched the flax with a scutch stick, then he spun it on reels into thread.
