- (continued from previous page)Poor Schull, you have good cause to mourn
You're looking dull and quite forlorn
Today your streets are cold and chill
With business down to nought or nil
With Gabrils summits darkening frown
Above the God-forsaken town,
No wonder now, men curse and damn
That slur on railways called "the tram"
When empty wagons west and east
It hauls twice per day at least
And now about six times per year
A steamer calls beside the pier.
No craft upon the harbour floats
But leaky yawls and lobster boats.
I will not wait to further scan,
Or each article touch upon
For like a case in law-courts tried
My story has another side
At length one day the townsfolk got
This dread command from Mr. Pratt,
Who earns bread and daily fee
As a member of the R.I.C.
In case a hostile force should land
Upon a quay or local strand,
Or anywhere along the shore
