    Áit Tighe Muinn
    This means "the place for the house of Muinn". Muinn, who it seems was an old Irish ??? or chieftain had his house somewhere between the local crossroads and the house in which Fr. Byrne C. C. now lives. Some however maintain that the correct name should be "Áit Diomaín" or "the place of Simon. And others say "Áit na Móna" or "the place of the turf."
    Baile na n-Ulach
    "The townland of the Ulstermen" It is said that some men from Ulster lived there once.
    Cláirín
    This is explained in Joyce's means a ridge or shelf of land and from the configuration of this district it would appear that this is why it is called Claírín. It is situated on a high ridge between two big bogs.
