- Tattenclave School started in a barn at Rocks'. My father was at school in it one day. The land lord was going to close up the school, and Father Gahan was afraid it would be closed, so he moved it to Western Row estate, and he got the ground from Pat McPhillips.
They both fell out about the price. He told Peter Carroll about the whole thing and Peter said he would give him the stand of the school free, the bottom with the little garden. It happened to be in corn so Peter put all his cattle in to eat it up. The men drew the stones to Carroll's bottom and left them there. Afterwards they arranged to builf the school on McPhillips' ground, so the old men carried the stones on their shoulders from Carroll's bottom to that place. From the time the school started to be built until it was finished the children were taught in McPhillips' barn. Crowds of children came to the barn and there were so many there,(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
