    made by coopers. they were made of wood and shaped like small barrels. Some of them had two handles.
    The people ate at a "scib" which was placed over a pot in the centre of the floor. Sometimes they a "cast" of potatoes. This was done by putting the raw potatoes on the hearth and covering them with coals. They were left there until cooked. They were then peeled and mashed with butter and salt and eaten with buttermilk.
