  1. Long, long ago when the Normans came to Ireland they built strong castles throughout the country to protect themselves against their foes. Each castle held a garrison of soldiers.
    There is the ruins of an old castle which belonged to them in the next village to Carras. The village is called Castleville. It got its name from the Castle.
    It was a strong well built castle. It was very high and contained many windows. The entrance was at the top. Someone alway would remain in the Castle. They had a long ladder inside. When one of the Normans
