    On Friday morning crowds of women could be seen barefooted, on their way to the market with large baskets of butter and eggs tied on their backs. They carried their shoes until they came within a short distance of the town. Then they sat down by the roadside and put them on.
    When they were on the way home they again took off the shoes, so they made the journey much quicker barefooted.
    Long ago the people also wore timber shoes, and very few people go
