St. Patrick visited Killala and converted King Amlaidh, his twelve sons and a few thousand people at a spot called "Tobar an aon Adharc" near the shore at Killala Bay.

St Patrick visited Killala and converted King Amlaidh, his twelve sons and a few thousand people at a spot called "Tobar an aon Adharc" near the shore at Killala Bay. He built many churches in the neighbourhood and established the diocesan church in the then flourishing town of Killala.
At one particular church he founded called Crosspatrick, there is a stone to be seen where the saint is supposed to have used as a seat. There are marks on the stone, said to be those of as staff and pipe which verifies the statement.
West of Crosspatrick there is another church called Domhnach Mór or Tamhnach Mór said to be built by the Saint also. There is no trace of the church to be found now.
