  1. Before the present road was made from Killala to Ballycastle. The people of Barnhill and Ballycastle District came by the old road on by Healthfield, Barnhill, by Sweeproad, by Moneen, through Castlerea by Mullaghhorn to Killala. The only was that they had for bringing oats to Killala was in sacks of about three cwt, on horse's or donkey's backs. One day a man was going to Killala with a sack of oats on a horse's back. Between Barnshill and Moneen the sack was unable to put on the sack.
    The day turned out terrible with thunder
