  1. There are three very old forges in this district. One is in Moorehill, the property of Patrick Russell, a second in Headboro owned by Richard Foley. The third is about two miles from here and Daniel Gearn owns it.
    The forge in Headboro was, many years ago before the present owner got it, infested with rats. The owner banished all these by pouring the water for cooling hot irons into the burrows of the rats. From the day he did this onwards no rats were ever seen in the forge again.
    Outside this forge, as well as all the other forges in this locality, there is a space for banding wheels. There is a space into which the hub of the wheel fits. Then as soon as heated, the band is put on the wheel immediately and put into the cold water to keep the timber from burning.
