  1. There are many stories of the Penal Days told around the firesides of the country houses. Here in Lossett on the top of the Lossett Hill not far from our school house many traces are still left of the time when the priests had to say mass in secret on the hill sides. There is a rough altar of stone still here and the stones on which the people knelt during mass are still pointed out. This mount is called "Ard an Aifriann" or the Height of the Masses.
