  2. The houses long ago were very small. The houses were only one story high. The houses long ago had thatch roofs. They made the thatch from bent weed. The bent weed grows on sandy ground. There was always a bed in the kitchen. There was a half door on every house.
    The floors long ago were earthen floors. Some of the chimneys were made of stones
