    The weather it being calm and still,
    Our anchors we did weigh;
    Each man being stout and hearty,
    Bound for Lough Swilly Bay.

    We steered our course right to the north,
    Our enemies to destroy;
    But little did we think or fear,
    The sea would us annoy.

    On the fifth day of November,
    The wind began to blow;
    It blew a heavy due-west wind,
    With heavy squalls of snow.

    The wind it still continued,
    The "Talbot" bore to sea;
    When the "Saldanha " brave and all her men,
    Bound for Lough Swilly Bay.

    The wind it shifted to the north,
    And dismal was the night;
    It was from Fanad Signal Pole,
    We did observe a light.
