  1. Shops were not plenty in olden times. People had to travel one or two to do their shopping. There was no buying or selling carried on after Mass. Long ago people used to exchange goods for goods. It is said that in olden times a market used to be held in Oatfield, Cappatagle, Ballinasloe and there was a small town there long ago. The town and all are now wiped out but there are still traces of the houses. Mr Ward from Ballinasloe buys feathers and rags and he used to buy them long ago.
