- Nowadays the fairs are held in the Fair Green. But long ago before any trains were invented. The people held their fairs at cross roads or farmers yards. The people would have to pay a penny or two pence to who-ever owned the field before their stock would be allowed in. When stock are sold there is luck penny given. To show that the bargain is made, they clap hands. When a horse is sold the halter is not given. There is a special fair held for pigs on the first Wednesday of every month.Got from,
