  1. There was once a man named Tom McTernan and he was coming home from card playing. He was struck by terrible fear. So great was it that he prayed to God to assist him. To his great surprise he saw a girl standing against the battlement of Garvagh bridge. As he was approaching she slided down into the river. He thought the worst was over but as he was getting off the bridge up a little incline he heard a strong breath coming over his shoulder the same as one in his pursuit but that was not the worst for just then there fell a great stone into the river. So great was the noise that the ear next where the stone fell became deaf. The next one fell knocked him out completly. He minded of no more until someone found him unconscious on the road in the morning
