A Colouring Pot

In many houses in this district a large pot about three foot wide at the top is to be seen. This is called a colouring pot. Spun yarn used to be dyed in it. Wool used to be dyed in it for frieze, tweed and flannel. I saw the flannel that was dyed in it I was told it was dyed fifty years ago I heard of mire or red clay in a mossy ditch used to colour stuff in the pot.
