- It took the men 3 days to walk to Co. Dublin. They slept out at night and they got an odd piece of food as they went from house to house. The men had to work very hard in Dublin. They had to sleep in a barn on a bag of hay and the had nothing for blankets but bags and old clothes. They got nothing when they were out working but a few roast potatoes. They made a fire from old withered stalks and they would roast some of the potatoes they were digging and eat them. When they went back to their barn they made a drop of tea. They got about one shilling and six pence every day. They stayed six months in Dublin and had six or seven pounds back with them. They went to Carrick-on-Shannon, to Longford, to Mullingar and to Co. Dublin. A woman names Molley McNassar who lived in Tullinarogue used to walk with her father and brothers to reap oats. They used to go in parties and take certain crops of potatoes to dig and set again.
