    There is said to be a meadow in Effernaugh, which is called the Asses field. Long ago an old black ass lived there and no one knew who the ass belonged too. He stayed there five or six years he lived in an old shed and when he died he was buried in a cornier of the field. Since that the field is called after him it is know as the Asses Field.
