    Long ago people used have great trouble and hardship when having to go to fairs and markets as they had not the same means of travelling as they have now. The advent of trains, motors, and lorries, long journeys were done on foot. The bargains at fairs were most amusing as there were many hand-slaps to cut or divide the pound or shilling to complete the sale. Then the buyer and seller with some friends that helped the sale, adjourned to a public house and took a few drinks as a token of friendship. Butter markets were very important, it was made at home and taken to the markets in little casks called firkins. They used get better prices then than now. Other people used carry a bag of potatoes to a shop and bring home their value in goods. Farmers used join in the
