    The incidents of the night before were slowly dawning on his memory, but Míceál was sure it had all been a dream until he felt a twitching pain on his left side. On looking there he found the gaping wound, which the stranger had stanched the night before, but he was still more surprised to see at his right hand's side a larger rick of tobacco. This was his reward for his gallant action, and the neighbours were seven full days drawing it home. Mícheál Dub never again wanted for tobacco as he had always enough and to spare both for himself and his neighbours.
    This is the tale my father has many a time recounted to us and which had been told to him by his grandfather whose grandfather had tasted of that far-famed tobacco.
