- Many years ago a chieftain lived in a castle at Ard na gCreach. One day be and his comrades entered the rich planes of Cork on a raid. They brought back with them lots of plunder such as catle and horses. When their enemies found out what was done they followed them and where overtaken on the borders of the parish. A great batle was fought there. Ever since the place has been called Ard na gCreach or the "Height of Plunder".
