  1. Local Superstitions
People are very superstitious about magpies. This is a well known rhyme.
"One for sorrow, two for joy
Three for a wedding, four for a boy
Five for silver, six for gold
Seven for a secret never was told.
When the man of a house is going to a fair with a animal for sale other members of the family meet him on the road and wish him good luck.
When leaving a neighbour's house at night a candle is held at the door in case the luck might be taken away.
A horse shoe hung upside down is supposed to bring good luck.
If a horse shoe is found the finder puts it in his pocket.
If when going to a fair to sell an animal a person meets a red-haired man or woman he should turn back.
If when going to a fair and the key of the drawer where money is kept will not the person should stay at home.
If when going to a fair and the animal will not go, it is unlucky to force it.
