  1. Long ago in times of the famine the potatoes rotted in the ground. As a result a lot of people died because they had nothing to eat. Any potatoes that did not rot in the ground rotted afterwards in the pit. The corn was beaten down and the grain fell off the stalk. The people had no oatmeal.
