In the penal times the churches were destroyed and burnt and the people would not get leave to go to mass, and if a priest was found reading mass he would be put to death, but the priest would go and read mass behind a rock or in caves, and when he would be reading it there would be two or three men watching for him. There is a place in the townland of Drumcay in the parish
