  1. In this parish the usual time for a marriage to take place is on a Wednesday. and it is very seldom that a marriage is celebrated on any other day. The following is what the people of Rathangan say about marriages on each day
    Monday for wealth,
    Tuesday for health,
Wednesday is the best of them all, Thursday for crosses,
Friday for losses and Saturday is no day at all. After the marriage is celebrated the happy party return to the bride's house for their wedding breakfast[y]. When the breakfast is compleated the married pair go a seaside place.
