- Carraigasgara
There is a rock in County Sligo called caaraig-as-gara. Carraigasgara means the shaking rock. If a finger is left on the rock it will shake over and back but if a crowd of men tried to shake it they would not be able. It is a very large rock and it is very heavy.
A certain kind of Moss or weed grows on this rock. It is used by some people for curing diseases. Many doctors recommend this weed for people that have very bad disease that are hard cured. Mostly a person with a bad stomach that this weed cures. - Rathfoda 29/4/1938.
Rathfoda is a townland about one mile and a half from Kilmurry school. This was called Rathfoda long ago which means "the long rath".
In the middle of the village there is a long hill. It is a field which belongs to a man named Donohue. The name Rathfoda comes from the long rath. It is a very old name but it was changed to Rathfoda.- Informant
