  1. In this district (Grange, Fermoy, Co Cork) St Stephen's day is looked upon as a great feast day. Men and boys go out hunting the wren a few days before. On St Stephens day they dress in their brothers and sisters and clothes and they carry a holly bush decorated wth fancy papers and the dead wren on it. Some of them play some musical instruments and they sing the following song at each house.
    The wren, the wren, the king of all birds
    On St Stephen's day he was caught in the furze
    We hunted him up and we hunted him down
    Till one of our wren boys knocked him
