  1. On a lovely summer's evening
When the sun is sinking low
    I oftentimes do ponder
On the days of long ago
When I'd ramble through sweet Glenree
With joy my heart would glow
When I'd meet the boys and girls
On the banks of the Abha mhór
Hand in hand we walked together
up and down this lovely vale
    Listening to the blackbird's song,
    the thrush and nightingale
When the shades of eve were falling
    Homeward we would go
    And watch the rippling waters
    of the lovely Abha mhór.
I'm growing old and feeble now
    My hair is turning grey
But memory brings me back again
Where I was wont to stray. [over]
