    her to look in the vestry window. Doing so she gave a little frightened scream at the sight which met her eyes.
    There was the "devil" as she thought, cooking "human heads" in the vestry. The "Black Thief" hearing her scream turned and saw the man with the figure on his back. Mistaking him for his comrade, who was out stealing sheep, he said "Is she fat" meaning, was the sheep which his accomplice would be bringing back with him, a fat one.
    This was too much for the poor woman, for with a cry she leapt from the man's back and forgetting about her rheumatism she ran as fast as she could to her own house an bolted the door.
