    for to maintain your crown
    And churches you have robbed them
    And our Abbeys you pulled down
    With laws most strict you did inflict
    Who dared complain you hung.
    Oppression sore for long we bore
    and to our claims we clung
    till that tyrant Cromwell next came o'er
    And nothing with us leaves
    Full fifty thousand of our sons
    he sold for British slaves.
    Although my sons have bravely fought
    for to maintain their right.
    Yet all the honour they received
    Was foremost in the fight
