  1. There was a boy once & he used to work with a man. He used to come home late every night & this night the man beat him & locked him up in the barn but he could not make the boy afraid. "I wouldn't be afraid of the devil" says he and the master said to him "Would you like to see the devil". "I don't mind" says the boy so he made a ring in the floor & said some words and up the devil came & the boy fell on him with his flail & flailed him & the master asked the devil was he hurting him but the devil said his blows were not hurting him; it was the strong faith was killing him so he let down the devil again.
