On the opposite of the font, at the foot of the tree was a large flag with a cross at the foot of it, People said that a priest was buried there, but it was never known what time he was buried there or what his name was, but people came to kneel on the flag to say their prayers.
At one time there was a great scarcity of firestuff in the town laud, and one man who had all his store ex-hausted, made up his mind to cut a few branches off the "Honey-tree. He did not like to interfere with it however as it was considered a holy tree, so when he spent as far as it he stuck his hatchet in the trunk and said "If that hatchet is stuck there when I come back --I'll cut off the branches, but if it is thrown down I will not". He then went away, and when he returned the hatchet was still stuck in the tree. He cut off the branches, and nothing ever happened to him but as time wore on people grew heedless with regard to the tradition attached to the tree --that it was a holy one, and the next winter that there was a scarcity of fuel, it was cut down entirely. Nothing remarkable however happened to the people who were responsible for cutting it, but still it was rumoured that they might be better off, had they not cut it.
