- Palatine (birthplace of my grandmother next townland to Co Kildare N.E. corner of Carlow.
Old name pronounced Kila Shan (a in "ban" accent on last syllable) Killessan St.Papers 14/6/1620. Mr Byrne: "Mr Burton, the first of the Burton Hall family, built at least pt.of Palatine and brought families over from Palatine (sic) to occupy it". He further told me that the previous owner, Mr Wall, built the great house, planted the timber and woods and had the mile of avenue made. Half of the great house is in Co. Carlow and the other half is in the Co. Kildare. It is impossible(continues on next page)
