    narrator cannot remember their names When flannel was required thread was finer. When blankets and flannel came from the weavers, they were scoured by the women and girls dancing on them in a tub of soap and water. Soap was dark in colour it was made by Dudgeon in Castlebar he made three kinds as well as making rough candles. When blankets were made and scoured they were everlasting. Flannel was died with madher, and lasted a long time when made into pants and bauneens.
    Linen Making
    Every family grew flax and in many houses a flax wheel was at work. Flax was pulled and steeped for a week or ten days in a bog hole stones being used to keep it from floating. It was then taken up and spread on the bank to dry then taken home and dried over a fire made for the purpose then beetled, scutched, cloved, hackled and spun into thread.
