- About forty years ago the making of toys in the house was one of the numerous occupations of the Irish children. Too, of course at that time was very expensive and they were hard to get.
The house made doll was one day usually made. The first thing is to get some hay or sawdust and to make it look like a head. Then it was covered with white cloth and the eyes. Much and nose was imprinted with ink or soot. After that it was necessary to get a roll of colored cloth with was made into the shape of a body- minus arms and legs and this is sowed on to the head.
