- Weather Lore.
Smoke as it issues from the chimney stacks is a good indication of the weather. When conditions are unsettled it is whipped now to the North now to the South and again in a different direction. In really settled weather it acends in a tall straight column high in the air. Or after it gets to a certain height it is pressed downwards, again and spreads out into a thin layer.
People who live by the sea can read the weather prospects from the various moods of the ocean. i live inland and do not know these weather signs.
